Music at Faith-La Fe

If you love holy song, worship at Faith-La Fe will truly delight you. Our services feature a wide range of music—from timeless Renaissance melodies to original compositions by our Director of Music and talented volunteer musicians. We also take great pride in our 57-rank Moller pipe organ, lovingly installed by members of our congregation with their own hands in the early 2000s.

Preserving the Heart of Our Organ

Beneath the gleaming pipes lie windchests—hidden chambers of breath and tone. Each contains thousands of leather valves, now aging and fragile. Restoring them is a painstaking labor of love, renewing the organ’s voice. This vital restoration ensures that the organ continues to sound for generations to come.

The Story of Our Pipe Organ

The pipe organ at Faith Lutheran Church enriches our worship with vibrant sound and draws audiences through concerts, community events, and musical outreach. It stands as both a cultural landmark and a centerpiece of Faith’s musical legacy.

Originally built by the M. P. Möller Company, the instrument was installed in the Main Auditorium of Ohio University in 1962. It was acquired by Faith Lutheran Church in 1999 and dedicated here in 2005.

When the opportunity arose to bring this organ to Faith, members of the congregation undertook the monumental task of relocating and reassembling it within the sanctuary. Their labor of love—thousands of volunteer hours—transformed a bold vision into reality. The organ remains a remarkable document of its era and a rare example of an American Classic instrument preserved intact after long-distance relocation.

Now, as the organ enters a new chapter in its life at Faith Lutheran, we begin a major restoration campaign to preserve its voice for generations to come—honoring the craftsmanship of its builders and the devotion of those who brought it to life in our sanctuary.

The Work to be Accomplished

The photographs below show deteriorating leather pouches and attempts to patch them. Many of these pouches need to be replaced, a process called "releathering," which involves stripping the old leather, cutting hundreds of new pieces, and re-gluing each one by hand. For comparison, we've included an image of what these leather pouches should look like when "healthy."

Faith's Chancel Choir

Our chancel choir is led by the inimitable Paul Lee, whose passion and skill inspire every rehearsal. Meeting Thursday evenings at 6:30pm, the choir explores a rich repertoire—from simple melody-only hymns to intricate and challenging motets. With voices raised in glory, they lead worship at our 9am service and join forces with El Coro de Fe to enrich our bilingual celebrations, creating a powerful blend of sound and spirit.

El Coro de Fe

El Coro de Fe is our vibrant Spanish-language choir led by our gifted volunteer music ministers, Lupe and John Rael. Their deep love for guiding the community in joyful praise shines through in their often-original songs, brought to life with the warm sounds of acoustic guitar, tambourine, and a variety of other instruments. The choir gathers each Wednesday evening at 6:30pm, weaving voices and rhythms into powerful expressions of faith and celebration.
